Focused papers built around selected topics - whether a single area or a related group such as algebra and Venn diagrams - ideal for working on specific areas before moving on.
Mixed papers covering a wide range of topics in one paper, similar in feel to a complete exam, ideal for building stamina and pulling skills together.
Our practice papers are designed for children preparing for grammar school and independent school entrance exams. They suit Year 4 and Year 5 children building core skills, as well as those revising closer to exam day.
Maths papers focus on the problem-solving skills commonly tested in 11+ exams, including arithmetic, reasoning and multi-step questions. Topics may include:
English practice papers help children improve reading, language and written response skills. Topics may include:
Many children complete full papers but keep losing marks in the same areas. Topic papers help solve this by letting children concentrate on the areas that need work. For example, a child who finds ratio difficult can practise several ratio questions before returning to a mixed paper, and a child who struggles with inference can work through targeted comprehension questions before attempting a full English paper.
Full practice papers play a different role. They bring everything together, helping children get used to switching between topics, managing their time and sustaining concentration across a complete paper, much like the exam itself.
Used together, they help children:
Our practice papers include answers so children and parents can review work easily. Maths answers are worked through step by step to show the method. English answers give the exact answer where a question has one, along with model responses and guidance for longer written questions.
This makes the papers useful for:
Start with the topics your child finds most difficult. Ask your child to complete the paper independently first, then review the answers carefully.
For Maths, focus on the working out. Check whether a mistake was caused by calculation, method, reading the question or rushing.
For English, look at whether the answer is clear, accurate and supported by evidence where needed. As your child becomes more confident, move from focused topic papers to full practice papers to build exam stamina.
