How admission works
The school is part of the Trafford Grammar Schools Consortium and admits through its shared entrance test, provided by GL Assessment. Children sit two papers of about an hour each, made up of questions in verbal, non-verbal and maths skills. The five consortium schools share a qualifying standard: a combined, age-standardised score of 334 or more across both papers.
Beyond looked-after children, Urmston Grammar sets aside about 15 places for its highest-scoring Pupil Premium applicants regardless of distance, and about 20 more places for its overall top scorers regardless of home address. Most of the remaining places (roughly 120) are then allocated by straight-line distance, giving priority to the M41 and M31 postcodes before all other homes.
