How admission works
Kent's grammar schools admit through the Kent Test, part of the county's procedure for entry to secondary education (PESE). A child must be found suitable for a grammar school through the Kent Test to be considered for a place, and each school then applies its own admissions criteria when it has more suitable applicants than places.
The Judd School splits its Year 7 intake into a 157-place Inner Area defined by a specific list of postcode districts (all TN1-TN15 codes, ME18/ME19, and parts of TN16 and DA4, plus the civil parish of Halstead) and a smaller 23-place Outer Area for everyone else. Within the Inner Area, up to 5 places are ring-fenced for Free School Meals/Pupil Premium boys, ranked by their Kent PESE test score.
