How admission works
The school is part of the Trafford Grammar Schools Consortium and admits through its shared entrance test, provided by GL Assessment. Children sit two papers of about an hour each, made up of questions in verbal, non-verbal and maths skills. The five consortium schools share a qualifying standard: a combined, age-standardised score of 334 or more across both papers.
Beyond the shared consortium test, Sale Grammar reserves up to 15 places for Pupil Premium applicants, prioritising those inside its priority admission area (postcode M33, plus Trafford residents in M23, WA14 and WA15) ahead of Pupil Premium applicants at a Trafford state primary elsewhere. Remaining places go first to other applicants inside that priority area, then to applicants outside it, both ranked by test score with straight-line-distance tie-breaks.
