How admission works
Kent's grammar schools admit through the Kent Test, part of the county's procedure for entry to secondary education (PESE). A child must be found suitable for a grammar school through the Kent Test to be considered for a place, and each school then applies its own admissions criteria when it has more suitable applicants than places.
Maidstone Grammar School (the boys' school) gives top priority to boys living in a long named list of local parishes - covering places such as Aylesford, Bearsted, Marden, Yalding and Maidstone itself - who also score 360 or more in the Kent Test, ranking them ahead of boys from the same parishes with lower scores and ahead of boys from outside the list entirely.
