How admission works
Buckinghamshire's grammar schools admit through the Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test. It is a single stage of two papers, each about 60 minutes, taken on the same day, and it covers verbal, non-verbal and mathematical skills. Each area is scored for age and the three scores are added together to give one test score. Children at Buckinghamshire state primary schools are entered automatically. Others register with Buckinghamshire Council.
John Hampden ring-fences 12 Year 7 places for looked-after or Pupil-Premium/Service-Premium boys in catchment scoring 113-120. Its catchment splits into Priority Area A (High Wycombe and nearby villages) and Priority Area B (parts of South Bucks and Maidenhead), and sibling priority also extends to boys with a sister on roll at Wycombe High School.
