How admission works
Kent's grammar schools admit through the Kent Test, part of the county's procedure for entry to secondary education (PESE). A child must be found suitable for a grammar school through the Kent Test to be considered for a place, and each school then applies its own admissions criteria when it has more suitable applicants than places.
Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that names the school are admitted first, which reduces the number of places available to other applicants.
The remaining places are offered in this order:
- Looked-after and previously looked-after children.
- Children with a sibling at the school who live at the same address.
- Medical, health and special access reasons.
- Children receiving Pupil Premium.
- Children of staff.
- All remaining places, by straight-line distance from home to school.
