How admission works
Greenshaw High School offers up to 60 of its Year 7 places to children who reach the pass mark in the Selective Eligibility Test (SET), the entrance test shared by six Sutton schools. Unlike the other five, Greenshaw does not hold a second-stage entrance examination, so the SET is the only test its applicants sit. The pass mark is set by the participating schools after the test has been marked, and each school sets its own. Children who do not reach it can still apply under the school's other criteria.
Passing does not guarantee a place, because more children pass each year than there are places. Parents are told by email the week after the test whether their child met the standard. Children who did must then name Greenshaw on the Common Application Form (CAF), which goes to their home local authority, to be considered for one of the ability places.
Children with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) that names the school are allocated a place first, which reduces the number of places available to other applicants.
When there are more applications than places, offers are made in this order:
- Looked-after and previously looked-after children.
- Children with an exceptional medical or social need.
- Children of permanent members of staff.
- Up to 60 children, by rank order of SET performance.
- Children with a sibling at the school.
- The remaining places, by straight-line distance from home to school.
Where applicants share a priority, lots are drawn by a senior officer of the Greenshaw Learning Trust who is independent of the school's admissions process. Applications are coordinated by the London Borough of Sutton.
