How admission works
Blackheath High School is academically selective and sets its own 11+ entrance examination for Year 7 entry. Candidates sit three GL Assessment papers, in English, Maths and Verbal Reasoning, in November. Longlisted candidates are then invited back for an interview in January, where they complete observational tasks and talk about their interests. The school also asks the candidate's current school for a report and reference. Examination results are for internal use only and are not shared with candidates or families. Offer letters are sent in February, and parents have until the beginning of March to accept.
The school does not advise excessive preparation, but suggests that familiarising girls with the format of the papers is useful.
Scholarships and bursaries: the Girl emPowered scholarship programme offers Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport scholarships at 11+, expressed as a percentage remission of fees. Every candidate is considered for an Academic scholarship on the strength of the entrance examination, with no separate application. Candidates may apply for one subject scholarship, which involves an additional assessment, audition or trial. Means-tested bursaries, ranging from 30% to 100% of fees, are awarded on academic merit and potential.
